Emmerdale has confirmed two enigmatic new castings who are set to bring big and explosive drama to the soap this spring. Coronation Street star and acclaimed director Reece Dinsdale, previously known as Gail Rodwell’s doomed husband Joe McIntyre will play a face from the past of a popular character while Liverpool 1 and Murphys Law star Mark Womack will be taking on the role of a dark new villain.
The newcomers come following the exit of alpha male character Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), who was killed off recently in a murder storyline. Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan) is also set to wave goodbye in coming weeks.
Show boss Laura Shaw has promised big things ahead for both characters, enthusing: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to have Reece Dinsdale and Mark Womack joining the Emmerdale family. Although playing very different characters, both come with huge stories that will see lives changed and big explosions in 2020. We’re all very excited to see these two hugely talented and experienced actors grace our screens.’
Mark will play DI Malone a police officer with a dark history and Reece will take on the role of Paul a blast from Mandy Dingle’s (Lisa Riley) past who will certainly stir things up for her and Vinny (Bradley Johnson). Could he be the father of Vinny?
Mark said: ‘It’s always a lot of fun to play the bad guy and Malone definitely falls into that category. I’m looking forward to the audience seeing his twisted tale unfold on screen.’
Reece said ‘I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the cast of Emmerdale. Having recently directed a couple of episodes, and seen at close quarters the superb work the cast, crews and creatives produce, I can’t wait to become part of the team once again – albeit in a different capacity. Time to get my acting boots back on!’
The characters will debut this spring.
