Kristen Bell revealed her children enjoy non-alcoholic beer – as it makes them feel closer to dad Dax Shepard.
The Good Place actress shares daughters Lincoln, seven, and five-year-old Delta with the CHiPs star.
And, speaking about their parenting skills, the 40-year-old said the youngsters have developed a taste for the O’Douls – an alcohol-free beer – as a way of supporting their dad’s sobriety journey.
Appearing on the Say Yes! with Carla Hall, Kristen began by warning the host she would be getting ‘a lot of flack’ what she was about to say.
‘I’m going to get a lot of flack for this. And let me start by saying I don’t care,’ she said. I’m a great parent, I think. I’m learning every day.
‘My husband brought home a six-pack of O’Doul’s last night. And my daughters often ask for O’Doul’s.’
Discussing why the drink means a lot to the family, Kristen continued: ‘The reason for this is because when we had our first child and my husband would put her in the BABYBJORN and we’d walk around the neighbourhood, he’d pop a non-alcoholic beer in his hand and the baby would paw at it and put the rim in her mouth.
‘It’s a sentimental thing for my girls, right? It makes them feel close to their dad.’
O’Douls contains 0.4% alcohol – with any beverages under 0.5% considered non-alcoholic.
Dax has been sober for around 16 years, after struggling with substance abuse earlier in his career.
And Kristen explained the couple have been open with their children on why the star no longer drinks.
‘We also talk to them very much about (Dax’s sobriety) and the importance of it and why Daddy can’t drink,’ the Frozen star said, confessing that their daughters also whip the drink out during Zoom school sessions.
‘They have 15-minute breaks where they’re allowed to jump around and grab a snack and wiggle it out,’ she added.
‘And I walk in to check on them at 9:30 and both of them are drinking an O’Doul’s on their Zooms.
“They’re both just sipping their Doulies. And I’m like, “What must these other parents and teachers think of me?”’
Kristen and Dax first started dating in 2007, and announced their engagement three years later.
The couple tied the knot in 2013, and started a family with daughter Delta that same year.
They introduced Delta together in 2014 – with the Frozen actress sharing her hilarious, and very honest, account of motherhood online.
