Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s pet pooch Kid had an accident over the weekend which left him with a broken leg.

The talk show host opened up about the unfortunate accident on Tuesday’s show as she continues to try and move forward from recent claims about the ‘toxic’ work environment on her set.

Ellen, 62, admitted she had been feeling optimistic about returning to work and the start of a new season when one of her beloved pet’s got injured.

She told the virtual audience: ‘Over the weekend, our dog Wally, she’s a little over a year, so she’s a puppy. And she was running full-speed across the lawn.

‘Our dog Kid happened to be in the way and she just trampled over Kid, which is illegal because the speed limit is 25 when there’s a kid nearby.’

After laughing at the joke, Ellen continued: ‘So Kid was screaming in pain and we knew his leg was broken. It was awful, awful, awful.’

It came months after the talk show host revealed her heartbreak over the loss of her beloved pet Wolf in July.

Ellen posted a snap of herself and wife Portia de Rossi planting a kiss on their pooch on their 2008 wedding day.

She wrote: ‘Last night we had to say goodbye to our dog Wolf. He brought us so much love and joy. I hope we did the same for him.’

Meanwhile, Ellen has come under fire from former staffers over her apology monologue regarding ‘toxic’ work place claims.

The comedian made playful comments alluding to reports staff were not allowed to look her in the eye.

However, she also vowed to ensure conditions improved on the show’s set and promised to work on her issues as an individual as well.
